Frankfurt, February 2011. DuPont is introducing new nonstick coating technologies consistent with evolving consumer preferences for bakeware and cookware at Ambiente 2011 in Frankfurt, Germany. Firstly, new and more sustainable DuPont™ Teflon® nonstick coating systems for consumer bakeware are realigned under three new seals for greater market identification.  Meanwhile DuPont is unveiling a pure, elegant and natural ivory colour of Teflon® nonstick coating systems for cookware, offering excellent scratch and abrasion resistance and recognizing consumer purchasing trends towards lighter and more natural colours.

Greater sustainability in consumer bakeware coating systems
A new generation of Teflon® nonstick coating systems, successfully introduced in 2010, has now been extended to provide greater sustainability in consumer bakeware products. The new coatings are made with DuPont patented GenX technology, which enables the company to make high-performance fluoropolymers without the use of PFOA.  The new coatings offer the same outstanding nonstick release associated with the Teflon® brand.

To mark their introduction, DuPont has realigned its range of seals for nonstick coating systems for bakeware with its cookware segmentation. Specifically they are:
  • One-coat Teflon® Classic nonstick coating systems for occasional kitchen use when the convenience of easy bake and clean is required;
  • Two-coat Teflon® Select nonstick coating systems for regular kitchen use, providingthe lasting convenience of better easy release and cleaning after every bake;
  • Reinforced two-coat Teflon® Platinum nonstick coating systems, designed for use on heavy gauge bakewareto satisfy the highest baking requirements. This system delivers the best performance in terms of scratch resistance and durable, easy release.

As with all Teflon® nonstick coating systems, the new systems provide excellent release and cleanability for carefree baking, are dishwasher safe and provide the opportunity for healthier cooking with less or no fat.

“As well as being based on GenX technology, our new Teflon® nonstick coating systems for consumer bakeware represent the most sustainable option due to their longer useful nonstick cooking life in comparison to competitive systems,” comments Phil Bardsley, sales manager Consumer & Industrial Finishes, Europe, Middle East & Africa, DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions.

Market-leading Teflon® brand performance – now in pure and natural ivory
In line with cyclical trends in consumer purchasing preferences, lighter colours including white and cream have been experiencing a bit of a renaissance in recent years. In response to this development, DuPont has invested in its Teflon® nonstick coatings system technology to provide cookware manufacturers and consumers with genuine, long-term nonstick performance, which is also safe and more sustainable, in an elegant and natural ivory colour.

This new offering provides the established benefits of cookware with Teflon® nonstick coating systems, which include easy cooking and cleaning, healthy cooking and dishwasher safety. By upgrading the technology behind its nonstick systems, DuPont has been able to maintain the market-leading nonstick performance and durability of Teflon® nonstick coating systems while simultaneously improving its resistance to staining to levels that are equal or superior to its competitors. The new nonstick system will be available upon application to licensed customers in Europe during the course of 2011.

The new coating system also retains its superior release properties, scratch and abrasion resistance. The result for consumers is alternatively coloured cookware that comes with the guarantee of established benefits associated with the Teflon® brand and a longer useful cooking life for a more sustainable option.

“The introduction of Teflon® nonstick coating systems in a pure, elegant and natural ivory colour underlines our commitment to use DuPont science and technology to continuously improve our products in line with consumer preferences. It represents a new colour with the potential to create many more if the market should demand it. This could allow consumers to purchase cookware in their preferred colour and appearance yet with the market’s best nonstick performance and highest levels of convenience,” declares Francois Simons, product and marketing manager, DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions.

The origin of the DuPont™ Teflon®brand was the discovery of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in 1938 by DuPont chemist Dr. Roy Plunkett. The first Teflon® nonstick coating system was commercialized for cookware 50 years ago in the U.S. Cookware made with Teflon® nonstick coating systems makes cooking and clean up easier. DuPont has created a wide range of nonstick coating systems for cookware to meet the needs of a variety of end users – from those who are avid cooks to those who are professional chefs.
