DuPont TM Surlyn® was used to magnify and protect the red poppy embedded in the cap of “Flower in the air”, the most recently launched perfume from Kenzo.

During the 10th edition of PCD exhibition, DuPont will disclose its latest innovations in packaging for the perfume and cosmetics industry, highlighted at the heart of the “Maison Surlyn® (Surlyn® House). With this new concept, DuPont stages the potential of its Surlyn® product range as an inexhaustible source of creative new ideas for designers and brands in the perfume and cosmetics industry.

More design freedom, design options and  depth effects are now possible with the “DuPont Surlyn® 3D textile” technology. The new technology involves the overmoulding of a container wrapped in textile with glass-like transparent Surlyn® resin. This unique encapsulation process allows to transcend and protect the ornamental textile which perfectly resists, without altering, to the injection moulding process – even the most fragile materials such as lace.

Some examples of the numerous realms made possible by this unprecedented technology will be displayed on the DuPont stand, whether stylish, pop, glamour, romantic or sophisticated…

Sébastien Tindillière, technical manager – Surlyn® injection moulding at DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers, will present the new decorative effects during a conference entitled “Illusion or reality: new magnified decorative effects thanks to Surlyn® that will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 2 p.m. at PCD 2014, Espace Champerret in Paris.

Thanks to this new, innovative encapsulation technology with Surlyn®, objects, images, design elements and now even textiles can look as suspended in a crystal-clear cap for quite astonishing visual effects. The overmoulded decorations maintain fine details and show no distortion. Thus the design is preserved and magnified, such as the delicate red poppy embedded in the new cap of recently launched “Kenzo Flower in the Air” perfume. Inside the cap produced with highly transparent DuPont™ Surlyn® by French packaging company SAF, is encapsulated a perfect poppy corolla, visible from both sides thanks to a special laying and overmoulding process developed by SAF.

With the “Maison Surlyn®”, DuPont wishes to meet the needs of perfume and cosmetics packaging designers with technical expertise and unique, innovative solutions taking into account the new tendencies.
