Donation to Children's Circus

Neu-Isenburg, Germany. Thank God there is no cure for enthusiasm: since its foundation by cycling-enthusiastic employees in 2008, the German DuPont Cycling Team has a history of supporting social facilities in their immediate surroundings.

And that’s how it works: over the year, its members participate in a number of nationwide cycling races and donate 10 cents out of their own pocket for each kilometer pedaled in the DuPont jersey.  At the end of the cycling season, the site of Neu-Isenburg doubles the total amount of money which goes into a specific project that the team members agreed on: “It’s a pleasure to see our colleagues engage in an activity that is at the same time beneficial to health, team spirit and communities,” says site leader Marion Weigand who is more than happy to support the bikers in their efforts.

This years’ donation of 1250 Euro goes to the children’s circus Wannabe. “At the time, we were desperate since our tractor had just broken down,” says Elfi Elliott who is running the circus with her husband Bodhi, “so when Andreas gave me a call and told me about the upcoming donation, we just couldn’t believe the perfect timing!” In their decision who to support with their mileage, Andreas Koch and his team identified local relevance and the support of children and young people as top priorities. Clearly, the circus met both objectives.  “Over the years, the children’s circus has turned into a cherished institution of Neu-Isenburg and it is run by only a few people who are taking an incredible effort every single day,” says Andreas Koch, the team captain. “To us, the donation was more of an investment, really.”

Designed especially for children and youngsters, the circus project not only teaches the responsible contact with animals and the environment. It also contains challenging acrobatic elements and entertaining cabaret. It is supported by the city of Neu-Isenburg to facilitate the inclusion of socially disadvantaged and handicapped participants.
