DuPont At Interplastica: Shaping The Polymers Industry Since 1935

Innovation starts with DuPont

Geneva, December 2015. The DuPont exhibit at Interplastica 2016 will demonstrate how DuPont has shaped the polymers industry since it invented  nylon in 1935 and modified it to become the world’s first true engineering-grade polymer several years later.

DuPont Performance Polymers

Over the years DuPont™Zytel® nylon has shaped not only the engineering polymers market, but helped shape the consumer market.  Whether used to replace metal in automotive components or to lower cost and simplify manufacturing in consumer electronics and other diversified industries, product designers quickly embraced the versatility of Zytel® nylon to make expensive and heavy products affordable and accessible.

The DuPont booth at Interplastica will reflect how this advanced material, coupled with DuPont’s broad material portfolio and application development support in the form of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), Process Simulation can continue to create new growth opportunities  in a wide range of industries, including automotive, electrical and oil & gas. Highlights of where DuPont materials can support market growth include:

•             Lightweight, high-temperature resistant polymer solutions for automotive.
•             Flame retardant and halogen free grades for electrical & electronics markets.
•             Polymers like Crastin® SF (Super Fast) series for reducing processing cycle time and enabling thinner parts in automotive and large connector applications.

At DuPont, the advent of high-powered computing combined with state-of-the art materials and highly qualified design experts has taken computer-aided simulation engineering to a new level for their value-chain partners. We’ve stepped up to develop state-of-the-art advanced computer modelling and simulation to help boost confidence in adopting new materials solutions to better provide material design data and part performance analysis to minimize prototyping. And throughout the process we share data and analysis with our partners using CAE standard software suites in a non-proprietary, transparent environment.

Rudy van Engen, Sales Manager, Central and Eastern Europe, DuPont Performance Polymers commented “DuPont works with customers throughout the product development cycle, continually advancing materials, supporting design and optimising for processing.” Rudy  added “The automotive industry ceaselessly seeks materials that will help them reduce vehicle production time, total system costs and environmental impact. To meet these critical targets, automakers and first tier suppliers collaborate with DuPont for expertise in materials, design and processing technologies from the earliest stages of development until the finished vehicle rolls off the manufacturer’s assembly line.”

DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers

DuPont Packaging will highlight developments in the fresh meat packaging area.  From fresh meat and seafood to hot dogs and bacon, DuPont packaging materials preserve freshness and enhance appearance. DuPont works with leading food manufacturers and converters to develop innovative seafood and meat packaging solutions.

DuPont packaging resins are available in a variety of grades and combinations to meet specific needs of different types of meats and seafood products. Our materials can enable easier machinability and help reduce waste and overall costs and while delivering fresh, leakfree, convenient and attractive foods at point of sale.   Depending on the type of concept used DuPont™ SURLYN® may contribute to a longer shelf life  in advanced applications reducing the overall food waste

Materials like DuPont™Surlyn® help reduce the environmental footprint and cost of flexible packaging structures without tradeoffs in packaging integrity or appeal. Similarly, DuPont™Appeel® lidding sealant resin is used to improve the convenience of peelable lids and protect the content by ensuring seal integrity & easy open features.

DuPont has unique polymer technology and application development expertise to tailor and enhance properties of conventional polymers for high-value specialised applications. One of the new developments that DuPont will feature in this area is a new series of DuPont™Entira™EP compatibilisers designed for value-adding recycling of difficult to separate mixtures of inherently incompatible polymers. Specific performance demands can be met by selecting specific formulations.

DuPont will also highlight its entire portfolio of industrial polymers for the wire and cable market, to include DuPont™ Fusabond® coupling agents, DuPont™ Elvaloy® ethylene based terpolymers, DuPont™ Elvaloy® AC ethylene acrylates and DuPont™ Elvax® ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) resins. These products are particularly used in halogen-free, flame retardant (HFFR) cable compounds.
