Berkeley College to Honor Stirling Resident as Alumnus of the Year

BERKELEY COLLEGE TO HONOR STIRLING RESIDENT
AS ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR

On Friday, April 25, Berkeley College will honor alumnus Melvin Montalvo of Stirling, NJ, with the 2014 Alumni of the Year award. The award will be presented during the Commencement ceremony at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ, when more than 2,300 aspiring professionals will be recognized for earning their degrees.

The Alumni of the Year award is presented annually to a Berkeley College graduate who has enjoyed professional success and community fulfillment. Mr. Montalvo is Co-Founder and Vice President of Sales and Business Development for My IT Provider, a Caldwell-based networking and technology support company for small and mid-sized businesses.

“Melvin is one of our 38,000 Berkeley College alumni throughout the U.S. and worldwide who reflect success as business leaders and individuals who are committed to giving back to our communities,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College. “Encouraging career excellence and community service are important aspects of the Berkeley College alumni tradition. Melvin is a great example of this – he is an inspiration.”

Mr. Montalvo graduated from Berkeley College in Woodland Park in 1991 with an AAS in Business Administration – Accounting and in 2003 with a BS in Business Administration – Management. After beginning his career as a logistics coordinator, he gained business experience at Fortune 500 companies such as Robert Half International and Bank of America, co-founding My IT Provider in 2006.

Mr. Montalvo is a member of the Hispanic Law Enforcement Society of Essex County and the North Essex and Hispanic chambers of commerce. He volunteers both as a youth soccer coach and for Habitat for Humanity, and received the President’s Award from the Hispanic Law Enforcement Society in 2005 for organizing high school scholarship dinners.

In addition, Mr. Montalvo represents the Berkeley College Alumni Association on the 2015-2020 Strategic Planning Committee and shares his business experience with current students through career panels and Reunion Weekends.
