April Hot Topics:

  1. Geo’s Mart is an online retailer claiming to be located in Kokomo, Indiana. They offer such items as notebook computers, iPads, cell phones and other miscellaneous electronic items. BBB® has been informed that consumers receive an email after initial order is placed asking to confirm consumer's mailing address. Later the consumer receives an email after address is confirmed, that the company's credit card merchant is down and offline. The consumer is then instructed to complete payment through a wire transfer.

BBB advises consumers to never send a money transfer for online purchases. Consumers who may have provided credit card or banking information should contact their bank or credit card provider.

BBB has verified the physical address listed on the website of 114 Clinton Avenue Kokomo, IN 46902 does not exist. The only way to contact the company appears to be by email at sales@thegeomart.com.

The business's website http://www.thegeomart.com/ states that they are accredited with Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating. This company is not BBB Accredited and our policies prohibit such references.

  1. Spring is here. Time to think about lawn care.  Are you going to use the same lawn care company or maybe try a new one this year? Make sure to read your contract thoroughly to see if your contract includes any auto renewal provisions. Automatic renewal clauses in a consumer contract requires to clearly and conspicuously disclose the automatic renewal of the contract and what actions a consumer must take to cancel the contract at the expiration of the contract term.  If choosing to cancel the service, make sure to comply with the terms of cancellation in order to avoid additional fees or unwanted services.

Make sure you check out any lawn care provider at www.bbb.org/indy.

  1. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! BBB® continues to receive calls from Indiana residents who were contacted by phone or email indicating they have won a sweepstakes.  In most cases, the caller tells the “winner” that in order to receive their prize money, they will have to pay a fee for insurance, taxes, handling fees, etc. Callers have reported they were instructed to pay through a money wiring service, a pre-paid Green Dot card, or directly from their own bank accounts.  Fact is, if you have won anything you should never have to pay a fee. Hoosiers can sign up to be placed on the Indiana Do Not Call List by contacting the Indiana Attorney General’s Office Telephone Privacy hotline at 1-888-834-9969 or visiting their website at www.in.gov/attorneygeneral. It is also a good time for caregivers of seniors to remind them to never give out their social security numbers, banking or credit card information over the phone to anyone they don’t know.

This list is current as of April 6, 2015. Readers should take into consideration the importance of the practice in question and the total performance of the company. For complete information, please visit www.bbb.org/indy.
