CHENGDU, China, June 6, 2013 – DuPont senior leaders are in China this week to highlight innovation and collaboration, meeting with both public and private sector leaders regarding the challenges of feeding a growing population, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and protecting people and the environment.

DuPont leaders will attend the FORTUNE Global Forum June 6-8, where Fortune 500 companies from around the globe will engage with Chinese leaders.  The theme of the Forum, “China’s New Future,” creates the opportunity for robust dialogue around the evolution of China’s economy, development within China’s western regions, and China’s growing role as a global economic force.  A sponsor of the 2013 FORTUNE Global Forum, DuPont has helped shape forum program content around sustainable growth for China.

DuPont Chair and CEO Ellen Kullman, who became new chair of the U.S. China Business Council (www.uschina.org) effective yesterday, will participate in three panels at the Forum discussing topics that range from innovation to education in China to the company’s China and emerging economy strategies.

“As China looks to solve many of the challenges facing a growing population today, we believe DuPont’s integrated science can help enable the pursuit of sustainable growth and economic prosperity," said Kullman.  “The issues on the agenda at the Forum are relevant in China and many other regions of the world.  At DuPont, we believe it’s going to take applied science and unprecedented innovation to solve the challenges of population growth, food security and providing sustainable energy solutions.”

DuPont has published three white papers and produced three corresponding short films that take a detailed look at China’s evolving food security strategy, its increasing demand for energy, and how science can help China maintain its rapid pace of urbanization without sacrificing public safety, health and environmental protection.  This content, produced in collaboration with FORTUNE’s Content Marketing and Strategies Group, is available at http://www2.dupont.com/inclusive-innovations/en-us/gss/global-challenges/fortune-global-forum.html.

“We believe that the risks of urban environments can be minimized, and the potential maximized, with the help of science,” Kullman notes.  “Our goal is to create and grow partnerships so that science-powered innovation will directly align with local needs to create lasting, sustainable solutions in China and around the world."

Following China’s opening to the outside world, DuPont was among the first multinational companies entering the China market in 1984.  In 1988, the Du Pont China Holding Company Limited became the first wholly owned foreign investment company approved by the Chinese government.  DuPont currently has more than 40 wholly owned or joint venture entities and about 7,000 employees in mainland China, offering products and services to various industries including agriculture, food and nutrition, electronics, building and construction and automotive.  The company opened a branch in Chengdu in 2012 to support China's national Western Development Drive agenda to promote economic and societal development in the country's western regions.  In 2012, DuPont signed an R&D collaboration agreement with Sichuan University in Chengdu.  Under this agreement, DuPont jointly develops innovative products in computer, communication and consumer electronics, leveraging both parties’ core competencies.  DuPont operates a global R&D Center in Shanghai.  Due to ongoing demand, the company has doubled the capacity of the Center in 2013.

“To enable progress on all of these key challenges, China needs to rely on enlarging investment in science and technology, expanding collaboration and developing innovative local solutions to address these issues,” said Kullman.

Since 1995, the Global Forum has convened world leaders and the heads of global business – the chairmen, presidents, and CEOs of the world’s largest companies – on the dynamic frontiers of international commerce.  DuPont is a key sponsor of this year’s event.

DuPont (NYSE: DD) has been bringing world-class science and engineering to the global marketplace in the form of innovative products, materials and services since 1802.  The company believes that by collaborating with customers, governments, NGOs, and thought leaders we can help find solutions to such global challenges as providing enough healthy food for people everywhere, decreasing dependence on fossil fuels, and protecting life and the environment.  For additional information about DuPont and its commitment to inclusive innovation, please visit http://www.dupont.com or follow us on weibo @杜邦公司, Facebook www.facebook.com/dupontco and on Twitter @DuPont_News.
