With health, natural beauty and environment in mind, scientists of  DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts have developed a cosmetic ingredient which is an alternative to the commonly used petroleum-derived glycols and supports the performance of preservatives. Zemea® Propanediol is a natural product derived from corn that makes it possible to moisturize skin up to 30 percent more than propylene glycol. One of the Polish companies which already uses this innovative component is Pat & Rub.

When chosing cosmetics, what we think of first of all is that they should fulfill their function and improve the condition of our skin. Moisturizing effect of creams depends primarily on their recipe. It is often developed by scientists who are looking for solutions to replace the commonly used chemicals by natural substances.

Zemea® is a plant glycol which is obtained completely from corn grains and certified by organizations that promote natural products (European Ecocert, American Natural Products Association).

In contrast to propylene glycol (which is obtained from crude oil), this innovative ingredient does not cause sensitization or irritation, and perfectly moisturizes the skin.

In addition, as shown by recent findings CTFA (Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association), the content from 2 to 6 percent of the substance Zema® in a cream or balm can reduce the amount of preservatives from 50 to 75 percent.

"1,3-propanediol is one of the natural ingredients contained in the Pat & Rub by Kinga Rusin cosmetics ", says Kinga Piotrowska from Pat & Rub. "It helps to maintain microbiological purity in cosmetics, increases their emollient value while reducing the preservatives.
